Well, I love it when I learn something new … But sometimes .. some things are just MINDBLOWING … Now you may Not share my enthusiasm on this one ..
and while certainly – some random facts do come in handy for a unique question at a Trivia night (although I love those things – I may not be the greatest asset at your table) …
This one thing I will not forget !
Who would’ve thought that you could learn such interesting information from a TV program ??? Clearly the research people pay impeccable attention to detail, which is part of the attraction for me – as well as the fact that I love the mental process as I try to help solve the crime for myself .. Soooo .. whilst watching an episode of CSI on Saturday night – it came to be – that the ‘victim’.. had an unidentified substance on his forehead …. Now of course .. the sample was very small and visually not readily recognisable .. and after much to-ing and fro-ing .. and a whole lot of work in the lab ..
This small patch of a white substance was found to be …
a TEAR ….
and yet I hear you say .. What is so interesting about that ???
WELL .. here is the clincher .. the tears that we cry when emotion is involved have a completely different DNA profile to any other tears …. that – to me – is the single most interesting fact that I have learned as an adult .. it amazes me .. GOD amazes me … he created tears .. they are a release for sadness, joy, a sick loved one … a broken relationship, our children .. a parent, a loss, a gain …
1.’Tears produced during emotional crying have a chemical composition which differs from other types of tears. They contain significantly greater quantities of the hormones prolactin, adrenocorticotropic hormone, Leu-enkephalin, and the elements potassium and manganese. ‘ (Walter, Chip (December 2006). “Why do we cry?”. Scientific American Mind 17 (6): 44)
2.’In fact, one study collected both reflex tears and emotional tears (after peeling an onion and watching a sad movie, respectively). When scientists analyzed the content of the tears, they found each type was very different. Reflex tears are generally found to be about 98 percent water, whereas several chemicals are commonly present in emotional tears [Source: The Daily Journal. First is a protein called prolactin, which is also known to control breast milk production. Adrenocorticotropic hormones are also common and indicate high stress levels. The other chemical found in emotional tears is leucine-enkephalin, an endorphin that reduces pain and works to improve mood.’
Now the amazing fact that in the Bible it tells me that God knows when I cry .. has even more meaning .. because I know how much He cares about my tears .. he even gave them their very own DNA profile .. not like the weeping eyes I may get from an allergy .. but one that says .. yes – I am sad Lord .. or how happy my child’s achievement makes me .. or how much my heart is breaking when someone I care deeply about has died .. and then healing comes .. …
My tears are not ‘crocodile tears’.. they are an expression of my emotion … as designed by my heavenly father ..
‘For I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to grieve you but to let you know the depth of my love for you.’2 Corinthians 2:3-5 (in Context)
‘“Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.’ Isaiah 38:4-6 (in Context)
